Located on the banks of the River Bourne, Thorpe is well known throughout the country thanks to Thorpe Park, one of the biggest theme parks in the country. The village dates back to the Roman times, yet presently is an area rife with volunteering opportunities to get involved in which will help you to make friends, try new experiences and further your employability. Closely linked with Egham, voluntary opportunities range from working with the Egham Hollowegiansrugby club, who are looking for volunteer rugby coaches and first aiders to work with young and old players, to the annual Egham Royal Show, an agricultural and horticultural show which celebrates those key aspects of British history. There is also a Shooting Star CHASEsetup in the area, who are looking for volunteers willing to collect cans and fundraise in the area in order to further their organisation of being a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life limiting conditions. Whilst the main attraction of Thorpe may well be its excellent theme park, the voluntary and charity work options on offer make the community tightly knit and close, so if you want to volunteer in Thorpe you can easily become a part of the community by getting involved!
