Encouraging young adults to volunteer

The Time to Change project supports voluntary organisations across Surrey to build up the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become more effective in recruiting and managing young volunteers, aged 19-25. Young people already add tremendous benefits to some local organisations, but many organisations do not articulate and deliver an attractive offer for young volunteers. Time to Change can help your organisation develop these opportunities and recruit the next generation to your volunteer workforce. To date, we have supported over 75 organisations across Surrey and, in our first year, we saw a 27% increase in the number of young people volunteering, aged 19-25.

Youth volunteering – trends, tips and how Time to Change can help

Time to Change Project Manager Jordan Farrell has recorded a presentation for organisations interested in learning more about attracting and keeping younger volunteers. The half hour film walks you through current trends in youth volunteering, and looks at some of the ways organisations can adapt their volunteering opportunities to attract young adults.

  • what young people are looking for in a volunteer role
  • ways to make volunteering roles more appealing and attractive to young people
  • how to manage young volunteers effectively to keep them engaged
  • issues around board diversity and in particular a lack of young trustees (under 30)
