Wellbeing sessions launched for Ukrainian children in Runnymede

Voluntary Support North Surrey is launching a ten-week course for Ukrainian children and young people aged 8-12 years old in Chertsey, starting on 1st March. The course will run on Wednesday evenings from 6pm until 7pm at Revive Cafe, Chertsey.

This fun, interactive course is designed to support children and young people who struggle with anxiety or feel overwhelmed. The sessions support children and young people to develop coping strategies, promote wellness and enable them to rewrite their own, sometimes difficult, stories. Each session includes a creative activity such as cooking, painting or craft to start the session, followed by a simple mindfulness activity, journaling and time for talking together.

The group aims to build friendship and security for children and young people, encouraging them to talk freely about their emotions. We want to work with families in supporting children to overcome challenges, build resilience and know how to communicate these feelings.

The course is run by Lizzie Wayland, an experienced primary school teacher. Run in English, there will be an interpreter available at each session. A room for parents or carers is available with tea and coffee.

Anyone working with Ukrainian families that would like to refer, please contact Oksana by 25th February by emailing [email protected]
