Would you like to help other people in your community, inspire a young person, take on a new challenge or use your experience in a different way? Then volunteering could be for you. We have lots of different volunteering opportunities in the boroughs of Runnymede, Spelthorne and Surrey Heath so depending on the area you live we can match you to the right role. It is really simple to find a role that suits you - either look directly online via the Voluntary Support North Surrey website by clicking ‘Volunteer Now’ which is at the top left hand side and scroll through the opportunities that are available. If, however, you would prefer to speak to someone about the volunteer opportunities available either in person or on the telephone then please call our Chertsey office on 01932 571122 and our volunteering expert, Jenny, will run through the options available. We hope to hear from you soon.
Trustee Networking Event
The event on the 8th of March focused on the Charity Governance Code and was the first of many to be jointly hosted by Voluntary Support North Surrey and Voluntary Action South West Surrey.
The evening event was attended by 20 individuals representing 15 voluntary sector organisations.
A show of hands demonstrated that only 50% of attendees had any prior knowledge of the code which was first published in 2010 as a practical tool which aims to assist charities in engaging trustees and highlighting their roles, the need for appropriate skills and effective leadership.
There are universal concerns about improving governance. There is now greater emphasis on values, accountability, transparency, skills and leadership. Charity boards must be able to maintain a strategic focus, commit to board development and stay true to the organisations charitable purposes.
Please make sure that trustees are aware of the assistance we can give them in ensuring good governance and contact us if any support is needed and we would welcome trustees to the next event which will take place in June.
